Professional typesetting for manga, comics, and visual storytelling

Hi there! I previously worked as a professional manga typesetter at Medibang, where I handled English lettering, balloon placement, sound effects, and page layout for various titles.

Due to copyright restrictions, I’m unable to display any of the actual published pages I typeset. The samples shown here are original demonstration pieces I created myself. I took AI-generated Japanese comic pages, translated the dialogue into English, and applied my pro typesetting skills typesetting to illustrate the kind of work I did.

What is Manga Typesetting?

Typesetting is the art of making translated comics read smoothly and naturally, while keeping as close to it's original style as possible.

Below are the various ways it's accomplished.

Placing

translated dialogue into speech bubbles

so it's easy

to read.

Using fonts that match original dialogue, narration, and thought bubble text

Resizing text for readability without losing clarity

SFX Conversion:

Translates sound effects by either adding the English beside the original or fully replacing it with English onomatopoeia (based on the creator’s preference)

Light redraws and cleanup:
Minor touch-ups in text areas when needed, for cleaner work.

Preserving Flow:

Making left-to-right English feel at home in a right-to-left world—no awkward reading or skipping.
